Hey ya'll! I wanted to share with you my current workout routine. I recently got a punching bad and have loved working out on it so this workout routine has a kickboxing influence, but can still be done without a bag (just punch the air).
Alright y'all each year there a magnitude of new trends that pop up. Today I am sharing the ones I think we should leave in 2017. Now some of these trends might be your favorite thing and if that's the case then keep on doing you, these are just my personal opinions.
Well 2017 was a year full of ups and downs for me, but I can't wait to see what 2018 has in store. Below are my goals for the new year!
1) Journal More
I used to journal nightly and since starting my new career I have stopped journaling all together. I know that journaling is one thing that helps me process my emotions, so it is something I need to start doing again.
2) Get Healthy
I go through phases where I take my health really seriously and I eat a mostly clean diet and exercises 5 days a week. However, when my depression hits hard fitness and health is the first thing to go. I know that being active and healthy makes me feel so much better, so in 2018 I want to make sure that I make being healthy my number one priority.
3) Love Myself
This is something I am always trying to do. It is so easy for me to get caught up in what I am not instead of focusing on what I am. My goal is to practice self love and appreciate myself because I am f***ing awesome!
I absolutely love to read, but with a new job and a changing home environment reading has been put on pause. Instead of spending 30 minutes each night scrolling through social media I want to spend those 30 minutes reading. It is something that gives me peace and helps me recenter.
5) Become a Classroom Teacher
I got my teaching credential in 2017 and was offered a part-time PE job at the school I did my student teaching at. I accepted because I absolutely love the staff and administration. My goal at the end of this school year will be to get a full-time classroom job, which has been my dream since I was 8 years old. So I am keeping my fingers crossed!
In this new series I will be posting twice a month ten things I am currently loving.
1) This gorgeous table setting my mom did for the holidays
2) This leopard coat that keeps you warm and makes a style statement.
3) Diasy Eu So Fresh Perfume
4) This simple bracelet with a beautiful statement
5) Powell's Bookstore
Every time I am in Portland I love to visit this five story store filled with new and used books.
6) This classic Christmas song that reminds me of my dad every time I listen to it.
Specifically, this killer cardio workout.
8) Cranberry and Goat Cheese Bruschetta

9) My new Keurig my best friend bought me! Bye Bye instant coffee
10) Finally, my pup because he always brings a smile to my heart.
"Even the word hopeless is not void of hope"
As talked about in a previous post, I have anxiety and chronic depression. I take medication to help regulate my emotions, but every once in a while something happens and I just cannot control my emotions. The other night I had a full blown panic attack. I was sobbing and hyper ventilating and I had to take something to calm me. As I sat in bed that I felt hopeless, exhausted, and numb all at once. I knew one of two things in the morning; 1) continue to let my feeling overtake me and eat what I was feeling or 2) get my a** out of bed and move my body.
When I woke up the next morning I knew I had to get up and get out. It is so important to not let those "earth shattering" feelings overpower you. Below I will share some tips for how to recover and get you mind back in a positive place.
1) Get Outside
There is something about being in nature with the sun on your face and the cool breeze against your skin that helps you feel refreshed and renewed. Being outside helps me recenter my mind and body.
2) Get Grateful
While I am on a walk I practice gratitude. This is the practice of listing what you are grateful for. If you are having a hard time finding what you are grateful for start small; " I am grateful for the trees, for the air, for that flower" etc. This is something you can do laying in bed, on a walk, or pretty much anywhere. Practicing gratitude helps me recenter my mind and helps me realize my life is not as hopeless as it may seem.
3) Get Breathing
Breathing techniques help align your mind, body, and soul. My favorite breathing technique is to breathe in through your nose for four counts and then out through your mouth for eight counts. I do about ten sets of these breaths. It is important to focus on your breathing and not let your mind wander. This is how I start my walks with technique to make sure I have a clear head for my gratitude practice.
It is easier to give up than it is to fight. We all have moments where we feel like there is nothing left for us. Or moments where we feel hopeless have nothing good. I have had both of those moments, and I am here to tell you that there is always a tomorrow. If you can just hang on for one more night things will be better. These tips have helped me and will help you recover from a low and will help you find your high again.
Below are 10 of my favorite things to do this December! I hope you enjoy them too!
1) Go to a Christmas Tree Farm
2) Go for a drive around your town to look at Christmas Lights.
3) Watch a holiday movie
If you are like me, you enjoy a cheesy holiday themed rom-com. During the month of December a cheesy holiday movie airs almost every night so there are plenty of opportunities to watch one. Along with the cheesy movies, classics are also aired frequently. My favorite is A Charlie Brown Christmas.
4) Light a fire and catch up on the book you've been meaning to read for months.
We all have that one book we swear we will start reading "tomorrow". December is the perfect time to curl up in front of the fire and finally start reading it. If you do not have a fireplace you can opt for a yule log video on the t.v. It gives the same effect as a real fire minus the heat. I am currently catching up on Harry Potter and the Cursed Child!
5) Do a DIY Craft
This year I found some pinecones in my backyard and decided to do a DIY with them. I painted the tips of the cone scale (yes, I had to look up what it was called) with white paint to give it a frosted look. It was a super simple and easy DIY that made a big impact. I placed mine in a setting with a bouquet of flocked tree trimmings.
One thing I love to do in the winter is bake! There is something nostalgic about making homemade treats in the winter time. If you do not want all of the treats you make you can give them to your neighbors as a holiday treat. I made these amazing vegan gingerbread cookies from Niomi Smart. I'm not vegan, but these are truly AMAZING!
7) Decorate a Christmas Tree
My favorite thing to do in December is decorate our tree. However, if you do not celebrate Christmas you can decorate your house for your special holiday.
8) Take a Drive Through the Country Side
I love to take a drive through the country to look at the houses, animals, and nature. One of my dreams is to own a house in the country side with an acre or two, and taking a drive lets my imagination of the future run wild.
9) Enjoy Nature
Wether you drive out to the beach and watch the waves or go for a hike at a nearby park, just get out and enjoy nature.
10) Go Shopping
There are two reasons to go shopping in December.
1) You probably still have some gift buying to do.
2) Nothing is better than looking at the holiday decor stores set up. It is a great spot to look for decor inspiration.
Thanksgiving is over which means... it's time to decorate for Christmas!! If there is one thing to know about me it is that I love Christmas! As I have gotten older I understand the value of spending time with family. Christmas if the one holiday that I get to spend with both my mom and my dad's side of the family. My other favorite part of Christmas is giving my friends and family gifts. I am not going to lie and say I don't like to receive a gift as well, but giving is where I get the most joy. I have been through a lot in my short 23 years of life and I appreciate those who have stood by me so much. Giving them gifts is just one way I am able to show my appreciation.
Another thing I love to do around Christmas is decorate! Below are some images of how I decorate my room for this wonderful holiday!
After Christmas last year I purchased a 6ft artificial tree from Walmart for $20.00! It took a lot of restraint to wait until after Thanksgiving to set this up since I had had it for so long. In my room I have a red Christmas theme. I have had the gold ornaments for a while, but I bought these red shatterproof ones from Walmart this year for only $5.00 a box.
For my bedding I bought the red "we wish you a merry christmas" pillowcase and the red and white striped pillowcase from H&M a few years ago. H&M online has amazing home decor. While I could not find these exact pillow cases, I found this one and this one which are in the same color scheme with similar designs. I also use these flannel sheets from Target. These sheets not only fit my design, but they keep me warm during the cold winter nights.
A simple way to decorate surface tops is with tree trimmings. My family always gets a flocked tree, but it always needs some branches trimmed off of the bottom. I used these branches to create a garland for the top of my dresser and for the top of my book shelf. My dresser is accented by these beautiful red glitter reindeer from Target.
I already this red Crosley record player so I made it the feature point of my bookshelf and surrounded it with my flocked garland. Throughout the holiday I will have "The Great Songs of Christmas" record that I bought from my local GoodWill on so I can get in the holiday spirit whenever I want to. I also have a winter candle and my air diffuser on this piece.
I hope this post inspires you to get your space in the Christmas spirit! Remember the size of the space doesn't matter, it's how you style it that makes an impact.
From facial oils to great podcasts, today I am sharing items that I am currently loving.
Tea Tree Facial Oil
I have had troubled skin since I went through puberty...11 years ago! Recently I have focused on my skin and trying to find a skincare routine that made worked. I have always experimented with my skincare routine hoping something would work. I had been reading a lot about how beneficial facial oils are for your skin. Specifically, tea tree oil for problem skin. One day while at Marshall's I found a bottle of tea tree facial oil and bought it immediately. I must say this has made a huge difference in my acne. I usually have red cystic acne and the tea tree oil has calmed it like I have never seen. The redness has dramatically decreased and the size of the spots decreases much faster than before. I have also noticed a dramatic clear up in my chin where I had major problems. Overall, I highly recommend trying tea tree oil if you have problem skin.
Origin's Checks and Balances Face Wash
Along with tea tree oil I have started using Origin's Checks and Balances face wash. This face wash is made with natural ingredients that do not irritate my sensitive skin. This face wash used with the Vanity Planet face brush has truly made a difference in my skin. This lightweight face wash leaves my skin feeling refreshed and truly clean. As you can tell from the image I use this daily and am due for a new tube ASAP!
Vanity Planet Ultimate Skin Spa-Facial Cleansing System
While watching a video by one of my favorite YouTubers, Sarah's Day, she was discussing her skincare routine. She had also had problem skin in the past and was sharing what has worked for her. Two of the things she uses daily are the Origin's Checks and Balances face wash and the Vanity Planet facial cleansing brush. I had looked into facial brushes in the past, but never followed through with the purchase. She had a discount code for 70% off and so I thought it was the perfect time to buy one. I must say it was the best purchase! The brush provides a deep exfoliating clean that I could not get with my hands. I wash my face with this brush every night and do feel it has improved my skin clarity. The exfoliating factor has smoothed out my dry patches and has visibly decreased the amount and size of my pores and blackheads on my nose. In fact my pores and blackheads have nearly cleared up all together. If you have been debating about weather electric facial brushes are worth it or not I can tell you they most certainly are and I wish I had started using one sooner.
NYX Liquid Suede Metallic Matte Lipstick
NYX has come out with new metallic liquid lipsticks that I am obsessed with. These lipsticks are one of a kind. They dry matte, but still maintain their metallic sheen. They also feel super lightweight on. My favorite one is in the color Biker Babe. It is a beautiful burgundy color that is perfect for the holiday season.
Red Glitter Reindeer
I am one of those people who as soon as the leaves change color and the rain starts to fall, I am in the Christmas spirit. While at Target today I was meandering the Christmas section and found the most amazing red glitter reindeer decorations. In my bedroom I do a red theme for Christmas and immediately fell in love with these reindeer. They were a part of my color scheme and were glitter! I bought the last two that were out and currently have them anchoring either side of my t.v. Definitely my favorite purchase of the season so far.
*I tried to find them online, but couldn't so go out to your local Target if you want these!
One of my obsessions is The Real Housewives franchise. I absolutely love to watch The Real Housewives and all of its insanity. I do not discriminate and I watch all of the cities even though I do have my favorites. My go to person to discuss the housewives with is my aunt. We will have nights where I will go over to her house and drink champaign and eat shitty food and catch up on the housewives. However, we have both started our first year teaching which has made it difficult to discuss every episode. That is where Bitch Sesh comes in. Bitch Sesh is a podcast hosted by Casey Wilson and Danielle Schneider all about the Real Housewives. Each week they discuss that weeks episodes in the most amazing way. When I am listening I feel like I am talking with my aunt. They hilariously comment on the show and say exactly what I am thinking. I love to listen to them while I drive and find myself laughing out loud throughout the entire episode. If you are a Real Housewives fan who does not have anyone to discuss the show with Casey and Danielle are your girls!
MY NEW CAR!!
Last week I made my first adult purchase, a new car. I loved my previous car, but it was time to upgrade. I knew I wanted a midsize crossover car, but I was not sure which one I wanted. After months (in reality over a year) of researching I decided I wanted the Hyundai Tuscon. I decided on this car for a number of reasons. The first was one of my best friends had this car and I loved the style and how it drove. I also loved the size. For being a smaller crossover there was plenty of leg room and storage room. Knowing this was the car I wanted I headed to my local Hyundai dealership to find my dream car. The catch was I was adimate about having a sunroof which meant my options were limited. I love nothing more than opening my sunroof, rolling down my windows, and blasting music while I drive. I knew that I had to have a sunroof in my car and I wanted it to be black, but other than that I was open to different years and technology options. Low and behold the dealership had one black Tuscon with a sunroof, which now currently sits in my driveway! This car is my absolute dream car. It has a back-up camera, bluetooth audio, and most importantly it has a panoramic sunroof! I feel truly blessed to be driving around town in a car I had only dreamed of.
